This collection consists of Edward Tober's correspondence, administrative files, circulation promotions and other promotional material, such as brochures and mailings, from his time as promotion manager in the Advertising division of the American Institute of Physics (AIP). There are files for a majority of AIP's journals, especially their translation journals associated with Soviet Physics.
The American Institute of Physics (AIP) is a not-for-profit membership corporation which began in 1931 for the purpose of promoting the advancement and diffusion of the knowledge of physics and its application to human welfare. Its members are leading societies in the fields of physics and astronomy, and its activities include providing services to its member societies in publishing, finance, and education. The AIP Advertising Division is in charge of journal promotion, selling advertising space, and exhibits at conferences and expositions.
