Brookhaven Experimental Planning and Support Division records, 1962-[ongoing].
Records maintained in the Division office include AGS experiment files; these are the key files documenting experiments after approval. There is one folder or more for each experiment, containing copies of the experiment proposals, exchanges between BNL and the experiment collaboration and between various BNL offices (including notes from the liaison engineers and scientists assigned to each approved experiment, some engineering drawings, and any other documents generated within the Division related to the experiments. The files contain other records generated as a result of the Division Head's membership on various Laboratory and departmental committees (the Division Head is ex officio chairman of the High Energy Electronic Equipment Pool Committee and ex officio member of the High Energy Advisory Committee); the record copy of the records of the Accelerator Department's Radiation Safety Committee; and general administrative records of the Division.
Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) is a federally funded research laboratory founded in 1947. Operated by Associated Universities, Inc., sponsored by nine northeastern universities under a contract with the U. S. Dept. of Energy, BNL conducts research in high energy physics, basic energy sciences, nuclear energy, nuclear and medium energy physics and chemistry, and basic life sciences, including biology and medical use and effects of radiation, radioisotopes, and other nuclear tools. Environmental and energy research emphasizes energy systems analysis, new energy technologies and energy conservation, and reactor safety analyses and safeguards. The Experimental Planning and Support Division (EP&S) of the Alternating Gradient Synchrotron (AGS) Department at BNL is responsible for maintaining the various experimental beam lines of the AGS and the overall experiment areas; the Division also supplies technical and other services to experimenters.
