American Board of Medical Physics
American Board of Medical Physics beginnings and early history, 1984-1992.
Three volumes of papers representing the history of the American Board of Medical Physics (ABMP), collated by Edward S. Sternick in 1999. The papers include meeting minutes and agendas, reports, correspondence collected by Sternick to show the formation and evolution of the ABMP.
The American Board of Medical Physics (ABMP) was established in 1987 to certify physicists and related scientists to practice clinical medical physics and perform research on human subjects. Currently, the two primary certificates are offered in the field of radiological sciences, but the certificiation programs are adjusted in response to technological and professional demands as the ABMP works in partnership with the American Board of Radiology and the rest of the professional medical physics community. The ABMP is sponsored by four professional physics organizations: the American Association of Physicists in Medicine, the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine, the Academy of Health Physics, and the American College of Medical Physics.
