Ph.D. in astrophysics, California Institute of Technology (Caltech) (1966); senior scientist at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory and professor at both Princeton University and Caltech. Research interests have included theoretical and observational cosmology, astronomical instrumentation, the structure and evaluation of galaxies and clusters, and star formation.
