Collection 2002-10 (1987-1999) consists of slides and correspondence files of the Office of the Director. The accession also includes records of the Fusion Sciences Assessment Committee, the Scripps Institution of Oceanography Policy Council and Executive Council.
Collection 2003-17 (1988-2003) consists of subject files of the Office of the Director, including video tapes, publications, journals, and papers following Kennels career starting at the University of California, Los Angeles.
Collection 2005-17 (1992-2004) consists of subject files including materials on National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), Joint Oceanographic Institutions (JOI), California Colloquium, the Pew Oceans Commission, and Board of Trustees meetings.
Collection 2005-37 (1986-2001) consists of chronological files and slides.
Collection 2007-31 (1990-2005) includes files documenting international relations, proposals and presentations generated by Lisa Shaffer, assistant director, Program Development and International Relations. The material includes correspondence and other papers in files for Indonesia, Japan, Norway, Mexico, Philippines, Russia, Singapore and other areas, and a file on the Mitsubishi Mexico salt plant. Also includes proposals, presentations and reports to foundations, and some material documenting climate change research.
Collection 2006-61 (1996-2006) includes files on institutional reviews at Scripps, meetings of SIO Council, budget and other committees at Scripps and University of California, San Diego, and records documenting Kennels work on outside organizations including Consortium for Oceanographic Research and Education (CORE), Joint Oceanographic Institutions (JOI), National Academy of Science / National Research Council, National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Also includes files on other oceanographic and research institutions and meetings held at those institutions, and an essay entitled, Seven Years at the Helm of Scripps, A Personal History.
Collection 97-22 (1997-2004) includes subject files, correspondence, a briefing book compiled for the incoming director by the staff, photographs taken on Kennels 2000 trip to Japan and China, two audio tape reels recording an interview by Neil Morgan with Kennel in 2001 and a videotape of Kennel presenting an address entitled, Plasma Physics in the 20th Century: Earth Magneto Strips, at the American Physical Society Centennial Celebration, Atlanta, Georgia, March 25, 1999.
Collection 2007-51 (1999-2001) includes files documenting Partnership for Observation of the Global Oceans (POGO) presentations, attachments and photographs.
Collection 2005-43 (films, 1963-1994) consists of miscellaneous films received from the Scripps Institution of Oceanography Directors Office. Ten are film stock of various sizes on cores and one reel which appear to be of various University of California, San Diego buildings, building site locations and building progress, including one film that is a time lapse sequence during construction of one of the buildings. In some instances the buildings are shown when they still named alphabetically and before given a formal name or departmental assignment. One film of data information from the 1973 Oregon Coastal Sea Surface Temperatures, one film titled Dolphin, one film titled Tsunami from SIO and the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission, and finally one titled A&E Actions 1st Fill from May 1965.
