Charles D. Keeling papers, 1950-1995.
Collection 2003-18 (1950-1995): Documents Charles Keeling's research measuring atmospheric carbon dioxide and his participation in discussion of climate change.
Collection 2006-36 (1937-2005): Consists of Keeling's correspondence with family and friends, documenting his education and personal interests including music and nature, as well as newspaper clippings documenting his death.
Collection 2006-18 (1942-2005): Documents Keeling's research, teaching career and oceanographic expeditions and includes student notes, laboratory notebooks, correspondence, lectures and teaching files, manuscripts, autobiographical notes and an interview, as well as some photographs and other media.
Collection 2006-20 (1945-2005): Contains family correspondence, diplomas and awards, and includes a history of the University of California San Diego Madrigal Singers and Keelings relationship with that group.
Collection 2006-35 (1945-2005): Contains Keeling's correspondence, drafts of papers and manuscripts, unpublished lectures and other material on the topics of atmospheric carbon dioxide and oceanography.
Collection 2003-38 (1956-1994): Documents Keeling's work in global warming and climate change, including measurements of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and seawater. Includes data on calibration and instrument analysis, shipboard data for Lusiad, Nova, and other expeditions, correspondence, field data and reports from stations such as Mauna Loa, Station P, New Zealand, Fanning, Christmas Island, and files on the SIO Pier project, and includes work with Peter Guenther and Robert Bacastow.
Collection 2006-54 (1956-1967): Consists of correspondence between Keeling and family, most written by Keeling during his expeditions. The letters document his move to Scripps Institution of Oceanography, various trips to Europe, as well as his Monsoon and Lusiad Expeditions.
Collection 2008-02 (1957-2005): Consists of images and videorecordings of Keeling and family, documenting family trips abroad, hiking, working in the field and office, and receiving awards and honors. They include images of Keeling on Mauna Loa and taking data in the field.
Collections 2006-12 and 2006-07 (1956-2006): Documents environmental conditions in Del Mar, California, including flooding and erosion and development plans. Also includes some photocopies of family photographs.
Collection 2006-17 (1964-2000): Consists of grant files related to atmospheric carbon dioxide measurement.
American geochemist and oceanographer. Ph.D. chemistry, Northwestern University (1954). Served as professor of oceanography at Scripps Institution of Oceanography (1958-2005). Known for masurements of the progressive buildup of carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas.
