Rivers, R. J.
Oral history interview with Dr. Ray Rivers, 2001 September 13.
In this interview, Dr. Ray Rivers details the kind of problem Abdum Salam's group was interested in during the 1960s. In particular, he explains their work on the SU(6) symmetry. He also comments on the social life inside the group and particularly at the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP). Rivers speaks about Salam as a scientist, but also as a manager and as a politician. The reputation of the ICTP among European and American physicists is commented on. Names cited are: Abdus Salam; John Strathdee; Yuval Ne'eman; Bob Delbourgo; Tom Kibble; Feza Gursey; Luigi Radicati; Faheem Hussain; John Ziman.
Ph.D. Imperial College, London (mid-1960s); collaborated with Abdus Salam and his group, and spent time at the International Centre for Theoretical Physics, Trieste. He then returned to London, where he was hired as a lecturer at Imperial College.
