Professional esperience includes: Carnegie research assistant at Yerkes Observatory, instructor in astrophysics, University of Chicago (1903-1909); director of Dearborn Observatory, professor of astronomy, Northwestern University (1909-1929); director, Adler Planetarium (1929-1937); director, Chicago Museum of Science and Industry (1937-1942).
