The Associate Director administers the laboratory's research program which includes SLAC's experimental physics research groups, as well as the Theoretical Physics, Magnet Optics, and Physical Electronics groups; the Library, Computing Services and Computation Research groups; and the experimental Facilities Department. Joseph Ballam (1965-82), Richard Taylor (1982-86), Charles Prescott (1986-91) and David Leith (1991-present) have served as Associate Director.
