University of Wisconsin Department of Astronomy High Speed Photometer records.
Collection contains records about the High Speed Photometer (HSP) on board the Hubble space telescopy that was built at the University of Wisconsin's Space Astronomy Laboratory and the Space Science and Engineering Center with funding provided by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). The principal investigator was Dr. Robert C. Bless.
The simplest of five original scientific instruments on board the Hubble space telescope, the High Speed Photometer (HSP) had no moving parts. Its five detectors measured the brightness of celestial objects in several different spectal bands in the ultraviolet. The HSP was sacrificed to make room for the device intended to correct the error in the Hubble's primary mirror.
