Mathematician and physicist. Wheatley worked with Professor Townsend at Oxford, 1912-1914 while studying for his BSc. During the war he worked as a cryptographer and taught at the Royal Australian Naval College, Jervis Bay. He was Headmaster of the College 1920-1930.
