Records of Thomson's life and career including correspondence, press cuttings, photographs, pamphlets, accounts and manuscripts of books, articles and speeches, including mention of New Guinea, Australian Aborigines and early exploration, and relating to his work with the Royal Geographical Society of Australasia.
Geographer and astronomer. Thomson was the founder, in 1885, of the Royal Geographical Society of Australasia, Queensland Branch, was president 1894-1897 and edited its "Journal". He had a private observatory and was responsible for the adoption of the zonal system for reckoning time.
