Andre-Marie Ampere and the history of electricity.
This digital collection contains approximately 5600 digital images from the papers of Andre-Marie Ampere, among other resources. The first part of the collection is devoted to Andre-Marie Ampere and includes correspondence and other manuscript material illustrating the diversity of Ampere's research, his work with European scientists, as well as glimpses into personal life. The second part of the collection covers the history of electricity and magnetism and includes an anthology of original scientific texts of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, and manuscripts from Alessandro Volta, Hans Christian Oersted, and James Clerk Maxwell, among many others.
The project is conducted in collaboration with the archives of the Academy of Sciences (l'Acadm̌ie des sciences), the Society of Friends of Ampere (la Sociť ̌des amis d'Ampr̈e), the library of the Institute, l'Ecole Centrale Lyon, the Museum of Arts and Trades (le Musě des Arts et Mťiers) and the Palace of Discovery (Palais de la dčouverte). The site is supported by the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS, Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique), the Fondation EDF Diversiterre, the Museum of Science and Industry, the National Research Agency, and the Ministry of Higher Education and Research.
