Physicist. Makinson (earlier White) was Assistant Chief, Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (Australia) Division of Textile Physics 1979-1982. Earlier she was Senior Principal Research Scientist 1971-1977, and Chief Research Scientist 1977-1982 in the division beginning her work there in 1953.
