this collection documents Gustav Arrhenius's career in oceanography at Scripps Institution of Oceanography. The accession includes a subject file entitled "Electron Microscope" which documents the effort to establish the first electron microscope facility at Scripps Institution of Oceanography during the 1960's. This file includes correspondence, memoranda and minutes of meetings documenting the work of the Scripps Institution of Oceanography Panel on Electron Microscopy. The accession includes six folders of material on faculty recruiting at University of California, San Diego during the 1960's. Also documents his work on the Chancellor's Advisory Committee on Humanities and Social Sciences, and the efforts made by the committee to recruit faculty for the departments of anthropology, economics, English, history and political science.
