Fritz Loewe papers, 1913-1971.
A large collection of personal records including: diaries 1927-1961; research notes, measurements and data for 1913-1914, late 1920s (Persian), from the "Wyatt Earp" 1947 and Commandant Charcot 1949, 1951-1952 expeditions; correspondence, personal and professional 1920-1971; lectures and papers with a copy of his thesis "Geographical distribution of Rainfall in Africa"; printed maps; newscuttings; photographs.
Meteorologist and explorer. Loewe established the first Australian university Department of Meteorology at the University of Melbourne in 1937 and remained until his retirement in 1959. Earlier he worked for the Prussian Meteorological Service and joined the A. Wegener expeditions.
