The collection includes correspondence, speeches, writings, interviews, photographs and other papers relating to Penziass career as an astrophysicist and executive at Bell Telephone Laboratories and Lucent Technologies. These papers document the discovery by Penzias and fellow Nobel Prize winner Robert Woodrow Wilson of cosmic background radiation emanating from beyond our galaxy which supports the Big Bang theory of the origins of the universe, as well as Penziass work relating to deuterium, another indicator of the Big Bang.
