Correspondence, papers, notes, minutes, and conference papers. Papers relate to chemical warfare (in particular mustard gas), camouflage research, research into D.D.T., seaweed and other topics. Also papers on technology and research and development in the United Kingdom and papers relating to his secondment to the British Commonwealth Scientific Office, to the O.E.E.C./O.E.C.D., and to his many assignments for the United Nations and other international organisations.
Scientific consultant. A scientific civil servant from 1930-1947, Woodward was involved in research into chemical warfare at the Chemical Defence Research Establishment, camouflage research at the Ministry of Supply, and D.D.T. at the Ministry of Production. Director of the Scottish Seaweed Research Institute/Institute of Seaweed Research, 1945-1956, and the Arthur D. Little Research Institute later Inveresk Research International, 1956-1970. Seconded to the British Commonwealth Scientific Office in Washington, D.C., 1947-1948, and to the O.E.E.C./O.E.C.D., Paris, 1956-1957. He was also assigned numerous scientific investigations by the United Nationals and other international organisations, 1967-1984.
