Heezen, Bruce C.
Heezen-Tharp collection, 1876-1995.
This collection consists of a wide variety of material relating to an effort to map ocean floors carried out by the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory. This work was accomplished by geologist Bruce C. Heezen and oceanographer and cartographer Marie Tharp. The material includes maps, preliminary drawings, earth science data, precision depth recordings, scientific and technical reports, papers, correspondence, cruise logbooks, printing masters, reproducibles, and globes.
Bruce Hezeen (1924-1977), American geologist. M.A., Columbia University (1952); Ph.D., Columbia University (1957). Led the team from Columbia University which mapped the Mid-Atlantic Ridge in the 1950s.
Marie Tharp (1920-2006), American geologist and oceanographic cartographer. M.S., geology, University of Michigan. Worked with Hezeen on the team from Columbia University which mapped the Mid-Atlantic Ridge in the 1950s.
