American Physical Society addition to records, 1905-2010 (bulk 1977-2010).
This addition to the American Physical Society records consists of records from the offices of Judy Franz, Ken Cole, and Deanna Ratnikova which were accessioned in 2009 and 2010 and processed as a whole in 2011.The addition includes administrative records, meeting minutes, election ballots, correspondence, subject files, bylaws, reports, newsletters, grant documentation, photographs, and videocassettes. It documents the activities of the APS Executive Board, Executive Committee, Council, committees, and subunits. The collection includes records of the meetings of the APS Executive Board, Executive Committee, and Council from November 1977 through 2001. The records of the Committee on Constitution and Bylaws include bylaws drafted for APS and many of its subunits. The collection also includes extensive documentation of a National Science Foundation grant for local physics alliances; this includes information on the grant itself, plus group reports, participant lists, on-site evaluations, photographs, videocassettes, and information packets documenting the actual local alliances. The subect files include APS historical materials collected by Judy Franz, Melba Phillips, and others, and materials on the history of the Physical Review prepared by Guy Emery.
This professional society of educators, industrial and government research workers, and students of physics and related fields, was established in 1899 to promote the advancement and diffusion of the knowledge of physics. It was a founding Member Society of the American Institute of Physics.
