Louisiana State University Department of Physics and Astronomy records, 1975-1993.
The Department of Physics and Astronomy records consist of a Board of Regents report on the Ph.D.. program in physics (1975) and 10 posters advertising the department (1980-1993).
The Louisiana State University (LSU) department of physics and astronomy is actively involved in research in astronomy and astrophysics, gravitation and relativity, nuclear and particle physics, materials and condensed matter physics, atomic/molecular/optical physics, quantum optics and computing, and medical and health physics. They have close associations with the Laser Interferometer Gravitational wave Observatory (LIGO) in nearby Livingston, Louisiana; the 1.5 GeV electron synchrotron at LSU's Center for Advanced Microstructures and Devices (CAMD); the Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center in Baton Rouge; the Center for Computation and Technology (CCT) at LSU, home to one of the fastest supercomputers in the world; and the Landolt Observatory on campus and the Highland Road Park Observatory a few miles off campus.
