Mainly concerns Teal's work with semiconductors before and during World War II at Bell Laboratories. Begins with Teal's research at Bell on crystals for television research in the late 1920s, his interest in germanium and germanium diodes in World War II, his connections with the MIT Radiation Lab and with Karl Lark-Horovitz at Purdue, and the sources of germanium and silicon in World War II.
Gordon Kidd Teal (1907-2003): developed a method to produce extremely pure germanium single crystals used in making improved transistors; developed the first silicon transistor while at Texas Instruments.
