Miscellaneous records including a manuscript on the orthography and orthoepy of a dialect of the Aborigines of NSW by L. E. Threlkeld 1825, a report of an expedition to survey Port Curtis, Moreton Bay and Port Bowen by John Oxley 1824 and a copy of a resolution of the Royal Society advocating maintenance of Brisbane's observatory at Parramatta, NSW 1828; correspondence 1812-1837 with autobiographical notes; addresses presented to Brisbane on his departure from NSW [ca. 110 items, Nan Kivell 6787 and FM/1626-7].
Astronomer and patron of science. Brisbane, a respected and successful soldier, was Governor of New South Wales (NSW), Australia 1821-1825. During this period he furthered his astronomical studies, built an observatory at Parramatta and made the first extensive observations of the southern stars since Lacaille in 1751-1752.
