American Physical Society. Annual Meeting (2010: Portland, Or)
The 50th anniversary of the prediction of superfluidity of He3 [sound recording], 2010 March.
Audio recording of session X8 of the March 2010 annual meeting of the American Physical Society, held in Portland, Oregon. This session was sponsored by the American Physical Society (APS) Forum on the History of Physics (FHP), and chaired by George Zimmerman of Boston University. Talks (and speakers) include: "Superconductivity with very repulsive interactions: He3, Pierre Morel, and me" (Philip Anderson); "Early thoughts on the superfluidity of He3" (Andrew Sessler); "Historically related puzzles in 3-He: spin fluctuations, the specific heat, and the superfluid phase diagram" (Joseph Serene); "Early days of superfluid 3-He: an experimenter's view" (David Lee); "Superfluid 3-He:understanding the experiments" (Anthony Leggett). Topics discussed include superfluidity and behaviors of Helium-3, the BCS theory of superconductivity, and the work of Pierre Morel, L. N. Cooper, R. L. Mills, V. J. Emery, A. E. Glassgold, Lev Landau, and others.
