Charlotte Moore Sitterly papers, 1948-1985.
This collection documents the career of astrophysicist Charlotte Moore Sitterly during her tenure at the National Bureau of Standards(NBS). Morre Sitterly joined the staff of the NBS in 1945 and was in charge of the Atomic Energy Levels (AEL) program. The collection contains correspondence, employment records, written speeches and notes for lectures, and travel records. The collection also includes some correspondence and records from Moore Sitterly's employement at the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) where she worked after her retitement from the NBS in 1968.
Astronomer and astrophysicist. B.A., mathematics, Swarthmore College (1920); Ph.D., University of California at Berkeley. Assistant to Henry Norris Russell, Princeton University; Mt. Wilson Observatory, with Charles E. St. John and Harold D. Babcock; National Bureau of Standards and the Naval Research Laboratory. Research and analysis on the solar spectrum and spectral line multiplets, binary stars and the masses of stars.
