Fischer, Gerhard E., 1928-1993
Gerry Fischer papers, 1945-1993.
Records include research and development files for projects concerning linear acccelerators, magnet design and measurement, accelerator alignment, ground motion studies for the Next Linear Collider (NLC), as information on SPEAR and other facilities at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC) such as the Mark II detector, PEP, Stanford Synchrotron Radiation Laboratory (SSRL), SLAC Linear Collider (SLC), SLAC Large Detector (SLD), Final Focus Test Beam (FFTB), and NLCTA. Also includes material from earlier work at the Cambridge Electron Accelerator and overseas collaborations. Material includes sound recordings, correspondence, drawings, financial records, logbooks, meeting minutes, memoranda, photographs, negatives and slides.
Gerhardt (Gerry) Emil Fischer (1928-1993) B.S., University of Toronto (1949), Ph.D., physics, University of California (1954). Professor, Columbia University (1954-1959); staff, Cambridge Electron Accelerator, Harvard; senior scientist at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC), design and construction of SPEAR, the solenoidal magnet for the Mark I detector, PEP, the SLC, and the NLC.
