Lawrence Hafstad (1904-1993): a physicist who played an important role in the development of nuclear power plants, worked with Richard Roberts and Merle Tuve to split atomic nuclei which led to the production of the atomic bomb. He worked at the Carnegie Institute of Technology in Washington for a majority of his career and was also assistant director of the Applied Physics lab at Johns Hopkins University.
