Audio recording of session J1 of the April 2010 annual meeting of the American Physical Society, held in Washington, DC in February 2010. This session was co-sponsored by the American Physical Society (APS) Forum on the History of Physics (FHP) and the American Association of Physics Teachers (AAPT), and was chaired by James Cronin of the University of Chicago. Talks (and speakers) include: "Fermi at Columbia and Reminiscence of Chicago Days" (Tsung-Dao Lee); "Working with Fermi at Chicago and Los Alamos" (Richard L. Garwin); and "A Student's View of Fermi" (Jerome Friedman). Topics discussed include Enrico Fermi and his work at the University of Chicago and Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory.
This professional society of educators, industrial and government research workers, and students of physics and related fields, was established in 1899 to promote the advancement and diffusion of the knowledge of physics. It was a founding Member Society of the American Institute of Physics. The American Physical Society (APS) meetings are a forum for scientists to gather and share research results on a wide range of physics and physics-related topics.
