Mitchell, Alexander Moncrieff, 1861-1935.
Natural Philosophy (Lecture Notes) V. l, 1878-1879.
Bound exercise book containing notes taken by Alexander Mitchell, of lectures given by Sir William Thomson (later Lord Kelvin) and his assistant, J. T. Bottomley. Bound in after the title page is "Programme of subjects in the course of Natural Philosophy for Medical Students, 1878-79" 4p. There is no indication in Glasgow University Calendar of a special physics course for medical students. Mitchell was not a medical student, but it would seem reasonable to assume that this syllabus applied to his course.
Lawyer. Graduated M.A. from Glasgow University in 1881; LL.B. in 1884; joined family firm of Mitchell, Johnston & Co.; for some years gave a course of lectures on mercantile law at the Glasgow Athenaeum.
