Thomas F. Malone, 1917- . Geophysicist and meteorologist. University Distinguished Scholar Emeritus at North Carolina State. A member of the National Academy of Sciences, he was elected Foreign Secretary in 1978. He also chaired the Academys Geophysics Research Board and its Board on Atmospheric Physics and Climate. In 1970 he became professor of physics at the University of Connecticut. He served as national president of both the American Meteorological Society and the American Geophysical Union.
