Indonesian astrophysicist. Born in 1934 in Central Java, Indonesia, he obtained his PhD from Case Institute of Technology in Cleveland Ohio in 1965. He was appointed Director of the Bosscha Observatory in Indonesia in 1968 and held the post for more than 15 years. He has been Chairman of the Indonesian-Dutch Astronomy Programme since 1982. He was Vice President of the International Astronomical Union, 1994-2000.
