New horizons in physics: a celebration on the occasion of John Bardeen's 80th birthday [sound recording], 1988.
Recording of the 80th birthday celebration held in honor of John Bardeed at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). The event was emceed by Morton Weir, Chancellor of the UIUC. The event was started off with a song performed by a choir of colleagues of Bardeen, with lyrics written by David Lazarus, followed by speeches and reminiscences by colleagues and family of Bardeen. Speakers and subjects include: William Brinkman, Stan Eikenburg, Nick Holonyak, Leon Jeeter, David Pines, Rob Prescott, Tom (Chih-Tang) Sah, Albert Schmidt, various colleagues, students and family of Bardeen, as well as staff and faculty of UIUC.
Chartered as the Illinois Industrial University, the University opened for business in 1868. It was renamed the University of Illinois in 1885, and the name of the university was changed again to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) in 1982, to establish a separate identity for the campus within the University of Illinois system. UIUC is regarded as a world-leading magnet for engineering and sciences, both applied and basic.
