History and philosophy of science [sound recording], 2009 May 3.
Audio recording of session H14 of the April 2009 annual meeting of the American Physical Society, held in Denver, Colorado in May 2009. This session was co-sponsored by the American Physical Society (APS) Forum on the History of Physics (FHP) and chaired by Daniel Kleppner of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Talks (and speakers) include: "Is Einstein the Father of the Atomic Bomb" (Harry Lustig); "Centrifugation and the Manhattan Project" (Cameron Reed); "Unification Accomplished and Forgotten: The story of H.T. Flint" (James Beichler); "The Clouds of Physics and Einstein's Last Query: Can Quantum Mechanics be Derived from General Relativity?" (Friedwardt Winterberg); "Schreodinger's Unified Field Theory: Physics by Public Relations" (Paul Halpern); "X-Ray Astronomy Discovery Experiments, II" (P.C. Fisher); "The Leviathan and the Whirlpool Nebula" (Trevor Weekes). Topics discussed include fusion and acoustics research, and resonance.
This professional society of educators, industrial and government research workers, and students of physics and related fields, was established in 1899 to promote the advancement and diffusion of the knowledge of physics. It was a founding Member Society of the American Institute of Physics. The American Physical Society (APS) meetings are a forum for scientists to gather and share research results on a wide range of physics and physics-related topics.
