American Physical Society. Annual Meeting (2009: Denver, Colo)
The scientific legacy of John Wheeler [sound recording], 2009 May 2.
Audio recording of session B5 of the April 2009 annual meeting of the American Physical Society, held in Denver, Colorado in May 2009. This session was sponsored by the American Physical Society (APS) Topical Group in Gravitation (GGR) Forum on the History of Physics, chaired by James Hartle of the University of California. Talks (and speakers) include: "John Wheeler, 1933-1959: Particles and Weapons" (Kenneth Ford); "John Wheeler, 1952-1976: Black Holes and Geometrodynamics" (Kip S. Thorne); "John Wheeler, 1976-1996: Law Without Law and Quantum Information" (Wojciech H. Zurek). Topics discussed include: black holes, geometrodynamics, nuclear weapons, particles, the Manhattan Project, general relativity, and quantum theory.
This professional society of educators, industrial and government research workers, and students of physics and related fields, was established in 1899 to promote the advancement and diffusion of the knowledge of physics. It was a founding Member Society of the American Institute of Physics. The American Physical Society (APS) meetings are a forum for scientists to gather and share research results on a wide range of physics and physics-related topics.
