History of physics at Clark [University], 2009.
Detailed overview of the founding of Clark University and the establishment of the physics program. Subjects discussed include: the founding of Clark University, Albert Michelson, Arthur Gordon Webster, and Robert Hutchings Goddard.
Founded in 1887 by the industrialist Jonas Clark, it is the oldest institution founded as an all-graduate university.[2] Clark now also educates undergraduates. It is one of only three New England universities, along with Harvard and Yale, to be a founding member of the Association of American Universities. Albert Abraham Michelson, the first American to receive a Nobel Prize in Physics, served as a professor of physics from 1889 to 1892; in the 1920s Robert Goddard, one of the founders of space and missile technology, served as chairman of the physics department.
Goddard, Robert Hutchings, 1882-1945.
Michelson, Albert A. (Albert Abraham), 1852-1931
Webster, Arthur Gordon, 1863-1923.
