Harry F. Olson collection, 1918-1976.
The collection documents the career and professional life of Dr. Harry F. Olson, long time head of acoustics and electromechanical research at the Radio Corporation of America (RCA), first in Camden, New Jersey, and after 1942 at the RCA Laboratories (renamed the David Sarnoff Research Center in 1951) in Princeton, New Jersey. Olson was long at the forefront of microphone and loudspeaker design and other aspects of acoustics research. He served as president of both the Acoustical Society of America (ASA) and the Audio Engineering Society (AES), and was a member of the National Academy of Science (NAS). The papers include notebooks, research and development records, publications, patents, correspondence, photographs, and various other written and printed materials spanning the length of Olsons career, from 1930 to 1974.

President of both the American Acoustical Society, a scientific society (1953-1954) and the Audio Engineering Society, an engineering society (1960-1961). Olson was elected to the National Academy of Science in 1959. Other honors include the John H. Potts medal of the Audio Engineering Society (1952), the Samuel L. Warner medal of the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers, (1955), and three different awards from the IEEE: The Mervin Kelly Medal (1967), the Consumer Electronics Award (1969) and the Lamm ̌Medal (1970). From the Acoustical Society of America he received the first Silver Medal in Engineering Acoustics (1974) and the Societys Gold Medal (1981).
