Lasers and Electro-optics Society (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers). Santa Clara Valley Chapter
The laser: invention, development and future [videorecording] / IEEE Santa Clara Valley Chapter 30th anniversary program, 2007.
To celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the IEEE Lasers and Electro-Optics Society, the Santa Clara Valley Chapter of the IEEE Lasers and Electro-Optics Society (IEEE LEOS) invited Dr. Charles H. Townes to be a guest for a gala event at the Palo Alto Research Center (PARC) on May 22, 2007, with a program titled "The Laser: Origin, Development, and Future. The program followed a talk show interview format with Dr. Anthony Siegman and Dr. Elsa Garmire as the interviewers. In this program, Dr. Townes discusses: his career from his college days up to the late 1950s at Bell Laboratories and Columbia University; his 1958 paper with Dr. Arthur Schawlow on optical masers (lasers); research following the first demonstration of the laser in 1960; and his contributions to public service (among other topics).
The Santa Clara Valley Chapter of the IEEE Lasers and Electro-Optics Society is interested in lasers, optical devices, optical fibers, and associated lightwave technology and their research, development, design, manufacture, and applications in systems and subsystems. The Society is also concerned with the various scientific and technological activities which contribute to the useful expansion of the field.
