A historical account of the first 100 years of the physics program at the University of Arkansas, written by Raj Gupta for the centennial celebration in 2007.
In 1907, the physics department at the University of Arkansas began with a single faculty member, 11 courses, a paper in Physical Review in 1926, and a masters degree program in 1939. It grew stronger in 1954 with a National Science Foundation grant, the addition of a doctoral program in 1959 and the first doctoral graduate in 1964. Today, there are 18 faculty members and over 80 courses. The University of Arkansas Department of Physics is located in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
