British Antarctic Survey. Ice and Climate Division.
British Antarctic Survey glaciology records and working papers, 1938-[ongoing]
Basic glaciological observations were undertaken from 1944, but more extensive studies began in 1966. Amongst the records we hold are the following: 1)radio echo sounding film, and logbooks, taken during flights over most of Antarctic Peninsula, 1966-present. 2)Scanning radiometer satellite photographs, 1967-present. 3)Working papers of individual glaciologists, often involving the long-term study of selected glaciers and ice sheets, 1944-present. Research areas include glacier physics; glacier geophysics; ice chemistry; pollution, and palaeoclimate studies. Includes participation in international programmes like International Hydrological Decade.
The Ice and Climate Division has been absorbed by the Physical Sciences Division.
