The Physics Department at WMU was founded in 1904, at was then called the Western State Normal School. Today, the department offers lectures and lab courses at undergraduate and graduate levels, and the faculty conduct research activities covering a wide array of fields including astronomy, astrophysics, atomic physics, nuclear structure and reactions, and condensed matter physics.
