Records documenting Odishaw's responsibilities at the National Academy of Sciences and its National Research Council, in particular numerous activities relating to geophysics including planning, 1953-1956, and directing, 1957-1966, the U. S. participation in the International Geophysical Year, establishing and guiding the IGY World Data Centers, and directing the NAS Geophysics Research Board created in 1960. In addition, as Executive Director, Odishaw helped to organize and direct the efforts of the NAS Space Science Board and, from 1965 to his retirement in 1972, served as Executive Secretary of the NRC Division of Physical Sciences.
