Ernest Harry Vestine, 1906-1968. Ph.D. in applied mathematics from the University of London, 1937. He worked at the Carnegie Institution of Washington's Department of Magnetism from 1938 to 1957, where he worked on geomagnetic land surveys, theoretical geophyics, and cosmic rays.
