Carnegie Institution Department of Terrestrial Magnetism Radio Astronomy Program records 1950-1976 (bulk 1953-1960).
This collection documents the work conducted by the radio astronomy program at the Carnegie Institution's Department of Terrestrial Magnetism. It includes correspondence files, project files, and equipment files belonging to Bernard Burke, Kenneth Franklin, Howard Tatel, Kenneth Turner, and Merle Antony Tuve. The collection also includes manuscripts, data files, and notebooks documenting various experiments and discoveries as well as photographs and ephemera.
The radio astronomy program at the Department of Terrestrial Magnetism (DTM) began in 1952 and ran until 1974. During this time period, various antennas were built by the DTM throughout the United States and in Argentina to study and monitor radio sources from the Sun and other planets, like Jupiter.
