Reverend Francis A. Tondorf papers, 1891-1936 (bulk 1910-1929).
The Rev. Francis A. Tondorf papers consist largely of correspondence received by Fr. Tondorf from colleagues in the sciences and from former students on the topics of seismology and vivisection. This correspondence is supplemented by photocopies of letters sent by Fr. Tondorf to Vincent Ferretti. Also included are letters and certificates regarding his membership in various scientific societies; manuscripts by Tondorf, including notebooks of Latin verse written while at Woodstock College; copies of the 1st and 2nd editions of his 'A vindication of vivisection'; a photograph of Fr. Tondorf at age 49; letters and telegrams received by the president of Georgetown University upon his death; and clippings on his life and work.
Francis Anthony Tondorf (1870-1929). AB, Woodstock College (1895); Jhons Hopkins Uniersity (1897-1899); PhD, Georgetown University (1914). Physics instructor, Loyola College (1897-1899); Assistant, Georgetown College Observatory (1905-1913); Professor of physics and geology, Georgetown University (1913-). Largely responsible for developing the seismology station at the university, which, during its existence, was one of the best equipped in the world.
