Accademia nazionale delle scienze detta dei XL
Accademia nazionale delle scienze detta dei XL records, 1782-1945.
Records of the Academy include scientific correspondence, administrative papers and institutional documents. Among the correspondents are Antonio Lombardi, Stanislao Cannizzaro, Augusto Righi, Emanuele Paterno di Sessa, Guglielmo Marconi, Enrico Bompiani, and Arturo Miolati as well as collections on microfilm including the Archives for the History of Quantum Physics and the Fabbroni Papers.
Founded in 1782 by A. M. Lorgna, the Academy was the only national scientific institution before the "Risorgimento". After 1848 it lost some of its importance, due to the emergence of the Accademia dei Lincei as National Academy after the unity (1870). All the prominent Italian scientists have been, and are, among its 40 members.
