George Gamow correspondence, 1948-1949.
A series of letters written by George Gamow on the subject of long-range navigational methods and anti-submarine defense systems. The letters are addressed to R. E. (Ralph Edward) Gibson and Vannevar Bush, among others. One letter is co-authored by H. H. (Henry Homes) Porter. Letters include discussion of vertical measurement, magnetic field calculation, velocity and targeting, as well as original drawings and cartoons by Gamow.
Ukrainian born physicist and cosmologist. Education: Novorossiya University, Odessa; University of Leningrad. Affiliations: Theoretical Physics Institute, University of Copenhagen (1928-1931); Cavendish Laboratory, Cambridge. Gamov defected to the United States in 1933, and began work at George Washington University in 1934.
