Richard C. Lord, 1910- , B.S.? 1931, Kenyon College; Ph.D. in physical chemistry, 1936, Johns Hopkins University, taught at Johns Hopkins University until 1924, when he came to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to serve as technical aide and later deputy chief of the Optics Division of the National Defense Research Committee. In 1946 he was appointed director of the Spectroscopy Laboratory at MIT and in 1954, professor of chemistry. In 1948 he collaborated with George R. Harrison and J.R. Loofbourow on the text Practical Spectroscopy. His research focused on the use of infrared radiation for the study of molecular structure.
