Collection includes files on conferences, seminars, and lectures in which Rose participated, 1969-1984; records of his involvement with the 1979 World Council of Churches meetings held at MIT; information about projects he consulted on to government, industry, and other organizations, including the carbon dioxide energy projects for the National Science Foundation; extensive files documenting his activities as a faculty member at MIT, including information on curriculum development, faculty meetings, student records, and courses he initiated in the MIT Department of Nuclear Engineering; and materials relating to his participation in professional societies.
David J. Rose, 1922-1985, B.A.Sc. in engineering physics, 1947, University of British Columbia; Ph.D. 1950, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, joined the MIT faculty in 1958, becoming professor of nuclear engineering in 1960. He was director of the Office of Long-range Planning, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, 1969-1970, and research fellow, East-West Center, Honolulu, 1981-1984? His work focused on fusion technology, energy, nuclear waste disposal, and the ethical problems arising from developments in science and technology.
