Charles Lane Poor papers, 1898-1945.
The collection consists largely of the published and unpublished writings of astronomer, Charles Lane Poor. Included are reports, lectures, reprints, correspondence, photographs, and nine volumes of published articles. Many of Poor's articles concern his criticism of Einstein's theory of relativity. Final items are notes and materials related to Poor's interest in yacht racing.
Charles Lane Poor (1866-1951). Astronomer. Ph.D., Johns Hopkins University (1892). Associate professor, Johns Hopkins University (1892-1903); Professor, Columbia University (1903-1944). Inventor of several navigation devices and was the author of books on navigation, racing yachts, astronomy, and relativity. Active critic of the theories of Albert Einstein and published several papers describing his own research on relativity.
