New York (State). Dept. of Economic Development.
New York State Department of Economic Development blueline maps of proposed superconducting supercollider research facility, circa 1987.
The series is a portfolio of blue line maps of the site, geology, and land use of a proposed super-conducting super collider (SSC) nuclear particle research facility in Orange County. The maps indicate the exact route of the oval-shaped, many-miles long tunnel, which if built would have had a major impact on the economy and environment of the county. The portfolio is an attachment ("A") to an unknown report which was apparently created by the Department of Economic Development as part of a study on the proposed project. The maps measure approximately 29 x 40 inches or larger and show SSC alignment and offer of land; topographic base maps and profile with SSC alignment; bedrock and surficial geology of the site; roadways capacities in the vicinity; occurrence of wetlands in the study area; 100 year flood plain boundaries; land cover and land use in the vicinity, locations of known historic or archeological resources in the study area; and property alignments along the site. The first plate in the portfolio lists all attachments by plate number and title. Plates typically include scales, legends, key maps, and sometimes extensive notes on acreage, boundaries, and man-made and naturally occurring attributes.
